Since January 2022, Prof. Dr. Ralf-Joachim Schulz from St. Marien-Hospital, teaching hospital of the University of Cologne and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Krühne from the Technical University of Denmark are new advisory board members of IVAM.

Medical technology from a practical perspective

Prof. Schulz is a specialist in internal medicine, clinical geriatrics, gastroenterology, nutritional medicine, physical therapy and balneology. After completing his medical studies and doctorate at the University of Heidelberg, he did research and scientific work at Harvard Medical School in Boston and at the Charité in Berlin, where he later worked as a senior physician in the field of geriatrics and completed his habilitation. With the establishment of the Chair of Geriatrics in 2008, Prof. Schulz was appointed to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cologne and serves as head physician of the Clinic for Geriatrics at St. Marien-Hospital.

Microfluidic systems for life science applications

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Krühne is Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. His main focus is the development and investigation of microfluidic systems for medical, chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical applications. He has worked for many years in the field of microfluidic research and development for life science applications, e.g. in the development of diagnostic devices, in vitro fertilization and in the field of cancer research.

"We are pleased to welcome Prof. Schulz, a medical doctor with great affinity for technical solutions to support care and treatment. Geriatric medicine in particular can benefit massively from the use of microtechnological high-tech solutions. The practical perspective is of great value for the development of sustainable innovations. We are also very pleased to have Prof. Krühne, a proven international microfluidics expert, on board. His expertise will help us and our members in the future to jointly drive the myriad of innovations emerging from the field of microfluidics even further," explains Dr. Thomas Dietrich, Managing Director of IVAM.
