Focusing on surface quality for life sciences

Oct 6, 2020

How can surfaces be structured for reliable results on lab-on-chip or microfluidic chips? Merconics and YES Yield Engineering achieve precise surface modification and cleaning in order to increase yields and extend the life and performance of devices.

Consistent surface preparation and coating

For this reason the necessity exists to ensure uniformity, consistent surface preparation and coating of implanted and inserted medical devices. Novel coating materials are being developed with desirable properties including improved adhesion and durability, enhanced osseointegration, low thrombogenic potential and better antimicrobial activity. Similarly, the choice of manufacturing technology to prepare these surfaces (clean, texture), and to apply and cure coatings is critical.

The product lines Clean, Coat, and Cure provide unique capabilities to enhance materials, surfaces and interfaces at micro- and nano-scale.

  • Clean:  automated plasma photoresist strip/descum solution.
    >95% uptime, higher throughput and ~1/2 the footprint of comparable products in the industry.
  • Coat: for Silane Molecular Vapor Phase deposition with excellent repeatability and precision.
3x better temperature uniformity across the substrate, up to 2x improvement in contact angle variability and a wide variety of applications including >100 chemical precursors.
  • Cure: vacuum-based, low temperature polymer curing.
~50% improvement in cycle time, 2x improvement in temperature uniformity, and low stress & outgassing.
