Smart consumables

Jan 5, 2012
ELISA has been a workhorse test format for the last 20 years used in a myriad of settings in clinical and research laboratories. However as the complexity of work done in labs evolves, sensitivity and automation expectations rise in parallel. Quanterix has addressed this challenge by developing the Single Molecule Array (SiMoA™) platform - a generic ELISA platform that meets these processing demands.

To fully realise and bring to market the potential of this platform, Quanterix collaborated with Sony DADC to develop the smart consumables. Sony DADC were selected as partners because they were the clear world leaders in micro structuring and the manufacture of high volume optical products. Sony DADC brought their microstructure capabilities to this project, which allowed the platform to operate at a high-throughput level. The optical quality of the consumables was maximized by Sony DADC‘s extensive knowledge in plating and moulding mastering. Most importantly, since this new format was based on Sony’s well established disc, there was the immediate potential for rapid mass production.

Fully-automated and cost-effective solutions for ELISA are in demand in the market - collaborating with Sony DADC has made Quanterix’s SiMo platform a viable solution for the market by realising these qualities. This promises to revolutionise IVD testing and research by economically and practically enabling and providing biomarker detection from a single drop of blood - a 1000-fold improvement on current techniques.
