Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has many practical uses both as a static and a dynamic detection system. In the case of Dynamic EIS monitoring, changes in fluids flowing in a channel as well as detecting various particles is possible. This means EIS is a system capable of inline monitoring for the accurate detection and counting of droplets, cells or particles which has now been realized in a single compact microfluidic chip.

The EIS chip is designed to give accurate detection as particles or cells pass between either single or double out-of-plane electrode pairs. These specially designed out-of-plane electrodes achieve a more parallel and uniform electric field, when compared to in-plane electrodes. This increased field uniformity enables an increased sensitivity for particle detection by data acquisition systems, which can be further enhanced by the use of accurate flow control systems in conjunction with these chips.

In order to enable the versatile use of these EIS chips Micronit has developed a connection system based on the Fluidic Connect Pro platform, featuring both fluidic and electrical interfacing, which ensures compatibility to a variety of detection and flow control systems.
