The MEMS Network Forum “Angewandte Mikrosystemtechnik e.V. (FAM)” will be hosting a workshop on lab-on-a-chip systems, which will take place on February 11, 2011.

Lab-on-a-chip technology addresses growth markets in the fields of point-of-care diagnostics and pharmaceutical drug development. Other important future markets include food analytics, chemical and biological security, forensics, and environmental monitoring. Within this workshop, Dr. Felix von Stetten, head of the joint research division Lab-on-a-Chip at the Department of Microsystems Engineering at the University of Freiburg and HSG-IMIT, and his team will help open up new perspectives for manufacturers and users of biochemical tests and lab devices such as centrifuges and thermocylces and for companies specializing in injection molding, blister packaging, and special equipment construction. After the presentations, the participants will be given a tour of the research facilities of the Lab-on-a-chip group and will be shown live demonstrations. The workshop will conclude with an informal get-together that will give participants the chance to get to know each other better and to continue discussions.

The workshop will be in German and the participation is free of charge. Please register by February 1, 2011, by fax (download form here: www.imtek.de/fam/Antwortfax_Lab-on-a-Chip-Systeme.pdf) or write an email to fam@imtek.de.  The workshop will take place from 2 – 6 pm in Room 02-016/18 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Freiburg. An outline of the talks can be found here:  www.imtek.de/fam/Lab-on-a-Chip-Systeme_Infos zum Workshop.pdf. For further information, visit www.imtek.de/fam.
